Falcon - Year 6

Hello! I am Mr Glancy and I teach Falcon class. I enjoy teaching all the subjects but some of my favourites are reading, writing and science. I love sharing with my class my joy of reading and I share all my favourite stories with them. I am very proud to be part of the teaching profession and a member of St John’s school.

At school I lead Reading which I am very passionate about. I also lead Science and it is great to get the class asking scientific questions they then get to test and solve themselves. I am also lead of Partnerships which means I have an enjoyable role inviting guests into the school to give special lessons or organise events such as trips to the Kings School.

In my spare time I love to read, listen to music, go for days out with my wife and my two children and find nice places out to eat!

Other staff working in our class are:

Miss Langley - Teacher Assistant

Mrs Sanger - Third teacher

Mrs Woodward - Cover teacher

Our weekly timetable:

Our learning this term

English:

In English this term we will be reading ‘The Boy, the Bird and the Coffin Maker’. We will use this book to support our writing of both fiction and non-fiction texts. Our grammar and punctuation focus will be on revising key elements of basic punctuation and standard English grammar in our sentences. The book is ‘a wonderful tale of adventure, love and family threaded through with a touch of magic’. As always, please do not read this book at home until we are done so that we can share the reading experience together as a class.

Maths:  This term we will be focusing on fractions, multiplication and division, alongside our daily flashback learning. We will continue to develop the children’s understanding and fluency of these concepts through daily practise, as well as targeted reasoning and problem-solving challenges.

History:

In our topic this term we will continue to study ‘education through time’. We will be focusing on key historic educational periods, the Ancient Greeks, the Romans and the Victorians and studying what school was like, why it was like it, who could go and comparing it to modern day education.

St Johns Board School, Canterbury

RE:

In RE this term we will exploring the big question, ‘What would Jesus do?’ We will be focusing on the Gospel texts, unpicking their meanings and considering what we can learn from them. This unit allows opportunities for self-reflection, where children can consider the power and consequences of their own choices.

Science:

In science, we will be studying ‘Animals Including Humans’. This will include learning about the main organs and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The children will be learning about the effect of exercise on the body, and the effects of harmful substances. They will be making blood and carrying out investigations to answer key questions.
